My Work
My approach finds the balance between compassion, pragmatism, and directness. I wish for all of my clients to leave our work together feeling more self-compassionate, self-trusting, and resilient.
My areas of specialization include family/couples therapy, attachment, relational/communication skills, codependency, addiction, assertiveness & boundary-setting, parenting, blended families, Internal Family Systems (parts work), Enneagram, and navigating existential and spiritual questions. I enjoy helping people heal from narcissistic abuse, chronic illness journeys, PMDD/ Severe PMS & Perimenopause, and I utilize Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and anxiety. I have experience working LGBTQ+ and non-binary folks, ethical non-monogamy, kink, and other alternative relational styles, as well as more traditional family structures.
My Belief
One of my favorite questions to explore in counseling sessions:
What would it be like to feel both secure and free?
I am in constant awe of our beautiful Earth, the complexity of humanity’s light and shadow, and the uniqueness of each human. I believe that our small and large traumas give us opportunities for growth, and ultimately, more joy and aliveness. I’ll never be shocked or offended by your deepest secrets, your most bizarre parts, or your scariest feelings. I also believe that the willingness to explore your upbringing & patterns, & try on new points of view, along with gaining more self-compassion and new interpersonal skills, will dramatically ease your suffering. If you’re reading this, you’re already partway there. It would be an honor to become one of your biggest supporters.
My Background
I’ve supported parents of young children for over 25 years, been a Certified Life Coach (careers, relationships, creatives) for 19 years, and worked at the intersections of lactation/feeding, sleep, and Perinatal/Postpartum Mental Health with my PMH-C certification for the last 13 years. Now, I am in the final stages of completing my degree in Couple and Family Counseling at Walden University. Being a Couples and Family Counselor is a dream I’ve had since I was 12 years old, but was derailed for a while when I was single-parenting. My BA was in Psychology, Sex and Gender. I also have a nerdy little minor in marine ecology.
I utilize a combination of modalities and perspectives, including Psychodynamic/Archetypal, Existential, Narrative, Psychoeducational, Emotionally-focused, Acceptance & Commitment (ACT), somatics and beginning-level hypnotherapy. I can offer tailored guided visualizations and affirmations, if you enjoy that sort of thing!
My Self
My Libra sun diplomacy makes me able to see all sides of a situation, so couples work is very aligned with my unique gifts. My enneagram 5 personality means I will go the extra mile in researching how to best support your unique challenges, advocate for you, and deliver extra resources.
My partner and I parent our children, 15 & 7. I identify as a queer lesbian and a little earthy/witchy/woo-woo, but I believe in evidence-based healing. I am keenly aware of my privilege as a white-passing, culturally Jewish (not a Zionist, but not anti anyone) and mostly able-bodied cisgender human. In my downtime, you can find me leading small spiritual groups, walking beaches, kayaking, identifying and gently foraging plants, spending time alone with books, and snuggling babies, dogs & cats.
