Thomas Brown, MA, LMHCA

I help people with adverse experiences become aware of the relational impact they have on the world and empower them to express their authentic selves.

My Work

We come to therapy when life feels stuck or something breaks. You might feel stuck in the same anxiety spiral or you’re waking up feeling so low that you just don’t want to do the things that you’re responsible for. These can be especially troublesome when there are relationship, financial, or personal difficulties on top of or causing those feelings. On the other hand, something might have just broken. You might have just lost a job, relationship, or something else, acutely terrible may have happened. Therapy can help move through those difficult circumstances.

My work focuses on here-and-now realities, narrative patterns, and relational healing. I am trauma-informed which means that I am familiar with the darkest sides of the human experience. Your pain is safe with me. I practice Liberation Psychology, paying close attention to power and privilege as they play out in your life. You can find freedom in this work.

My Belief

We are formed in relationship, wounded in relationship, and healed in relationship. We carry patterns and roles from our childhoods that repeat until we are conscious of them and can accept them. When we can integrate our mental states, bodily experiences, and deep desires we will begin to make positive changes, not just in our own lives, but in the world around us.

My Background

My early career gave me a great deal of experience across the country/globe in many different professions. I grew up in Charlotte, NC. After getting my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, I spent a short time in the Navy. I then moved to Houston and worked for an engineering firm based in The Netherlands. Next, I moved to Denver, CO, and worked in software development. I transitioned into human-focused roles in my late 20s and found a passion in this therapeutic work. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology.

My Self

All of us come to this work feeling the sense of “How can I ever get through this?” I was first a patient in therapy before I ever considered becoming a therapist. I have known hardship and deep relational rupture. Many of my experiences felt devastating and they should have never happened. In working through them I have become a more open, welcoming, and authentic person. There is hope in this work and I had to start where the pain was. Fortunately, I had someone come alongside me and I hope to do the same with you. Before I joined Greenlake Wellness Group, my friend described me to the staff with words like kind, full of energy, open, authentic, and naturally caring. She closed by saying, “He’s just Thomas. You have to meet him.” I look forward to meeting you.
